Judging Criteria

MESSAGE

What are you communicating?

The theme of this competition is What makes me happy? While we have identified a theme, it is completely up to you what the style and subjects are for your photos. You should think about things that bring you joy and how you can represent those things in photography. Ask yourself, “Does my photo inspire someone else to feel the same joy I do?”

ORIGINALITY

Is this your own work?

While it is fine to be inspired by other artists, it is not okay to take their ideas and represent them as your own. Further, creating original, unique, and interesting photos is fun! Originality is one of our criteria, and your photo submission must be the product of your own talent, imagination, and skill.

ARTISTIC QUALITY

Don't just take a photo- make one!

No matter what kind of device you are using to take pictures or what your subject is, there are some basic skills you can use to take great photos! Think about composition, framing, light, focus, angle, the rule of thirds, etc.. Check out the videos linked below to learn more!
